CineSalon is a quarterly experimental film evening based in Cork City.

The inaugural CineSalon Experimental Film Festival took place in September 2024, presenting a rich programme of shorts, features, talks and live events both in person and online.

CineSalon also plays host to an array of online artist-showcases and screenings.

CineSalon Online Artist #4 - Kevin Casciani Nolan

CineSalon is thrilled to announce the fourth CineSalon Online Artist: Kevin Casciani Nolan. Each year, CineSalon Online streams programmes of film works by six featured artists. Each programme is available to view free and worldwide for two months. This selection of Nolan’s films is online until September 2025.

Kevin Casciani Nolan is one of the most uncompromisingly personal and distinctive voices in Irish experimental cinema. His prolific and visionary output of experimental films and noise albums has created a dark but always compelling universe defined by raw inner struggle. His work possesses the exemplary DIY force of existing from a deep and immediate existential necessity. In a field too frequently defined by a measured politeness of approach, the viscerality of his films makes him a national treasure. In addition to his own work, his frequently updated Instagram account @thedepthsofbeing “Curated Images And Clips From The Vortex Of Experimental Cinema” marks him as a formidable expert on experimental film and is a constant source of delight and learning for CineSalon.

Live Uncertain. Leave Unknowing - Created With Footage From A Personal Home Video I Discovered (On An Old Hard Drive) From Christmas 2009. An Attempt To Capture And Visualize The Intense Sense Of Familiarity And Unfamiliarity With The Memory Attached On Screen. Distorting The Images To The Extent Which Accurately Conveys The Dissociative And Static State Of Reminiscence Felt Upon Viewing The Footage For The First Time In 15 Years.

The Essence Of Creation, Lost To The Night - Heavily Distorting And Altering Footage From Frederick Wiseman’s Documentary “Titicut Follies” To Further The Nightmare And Relation Of The Original Images. A Quickened Retake Of Sight, Sound And Horror, Authoring An Inflamed Vision Of Existing Terror, Digging Up The Dead And Examining The Scars.

The Motions Of Fears Envy - There Is In This An Attempt To Depict The Duration Of A State Separate To The Idea Of Relation. One Visual Made Unreachable By Another. One Loud, Repetitive, And Violent. The Other Serene, Melancholic, And Afflicted By The Absence Of The First. Neither One Being Particularly Desirable. Each Its Own Horror, Made Inescapable By The State, Whether Amplified Or Temporarily Subdued. The Cycle Of Repetition, Especially In The Audio Design Of The First Segment Signifies A Torrid, Psychotic Remembrance Of Sounds Felt And Realized Within The State. Brought To Life By The Mere Thought Of Their Possibility. The Second Segment Breaks Free Of The Distortion Of The First, But Is In Its Self And Reason, Nebulatic And Devoid Of Color And Deception. It Appears How It Was When Created, Completely Honest And Seemingly Hopeless. But In Its Visualization Is The Artistic Catharsis Of Creating A Representation Of Times And Thoughts Which Were Previously Unreachable.
